Gopal Murti has been living in Memphis since 1975. He retired in 2008 as the Director of Scientific Imaging in St. Jude children’s Research Hospital and as an Adjunct Professor of Pathology at the University of Tennessee Medical School. Gopal is well known for producing colorful and aesthetically pleasing images using electron, confocal and multiphoton microscopes. His Scientific images have garnered many National and International awards and routinely appear in college and high school text books. Since 2008, Gopal has learned watercolor painting and has already painted 200+ images on various subjects. Gopal sees beauty all around him and his eclectic taste is reflected in his paintings. He displayed his paintings in many juried exhibitions and has just received his first watercolor painting award from the Memphis-Germantown Art League (MGAL) at their Spring 2012 Juried Exhibition. He currently serves as the President of MGAL, an organization representing 160+ Greater Memphis Area artists (www.mgal.org).

Gopal trained in watercolor painting from the renowned painter, Mr. Fred Rawlinson (Atelier-Rawlinson Gallery and Studio), and has painted images of landscapes, portraits, animals, botanicals, etc. Some of these can be seen on the website, www.rawlinsongallery.com. More recent paintings focus on women and their emotions. One of these paintings entitled "Introspection" has won the Creativity award at a recent MGAL Spring Show. Gopal has been showing his paintings at a number of juried shows over the years including Atelier Annual Shows, MGAL Annual Shows, and WKNO (PBS) Art shows. He also donates his art to non-profit organizations such as Public Broadcasting Society and Pediatric Leukemia Hospital in New Delhi, India.
